How to make Mujaddara with Spiced Yogurt

Mujaddara is a popular Middle Eastern dish that is made with lentils and rice. It is often served with a dollop of spiced yogurt on top, which adds a delicious and creamy flavor to the dish.

To make mujaddara with spiced yogurt, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup dried lentils, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  1. In a large saucepan, combine the lentils, rice, olive oil, onion, cumin, coriander, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  2. Pour the water over the lentil and rice mixture, and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 45-60 minutes, or until the lentils and rice are tender.

  3. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the yogurt, cumin, coriander, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  4. When the lentil and rice mixture is ready, spoon it into bowls and top with a dollop of the spiced yogurt.

Serve the mujaddara hot, garnished with fresh herbs or a sprinkle of chopped nuts, if desired. Enjoy!
