How to make Lentil Burgers

Lentil burgers are a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional meat burgers. They are made with lentils, a variety of vegetables, and a blend of spices, and they can be cooked on the stovetop, in the oven, or on the grill.

To make lentil burgers, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup dried lentils, rinsed and drained
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 carrot, peeled and diced
  • 1 stalk celery, diced
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, for cooking
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the lentils and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 15-20 minutes, or until the lentils are tender.

  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion, carrot, and celery and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  3. Transfer the cooked vegetables to a large bowl, and add the cooked lentils, oats, bread crumbs, egg, Dijon mustard, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  4. Divide the lentil mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.

  5. Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the lentil patties and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and heated through.

  6. Serve the lentil burgers on buns, with your favorite burger toppings.
